  8. DESCRIPTION
  9.  
  10.      PSA Cards is an easy to use address program.  It looks
  11.      like a card file and it works like a card file.  Just
  12.      click on a divider tab or card to open or close it.
  13.      
  14.      PSA Cards is also an OLE 2.0 container application.
  15.      This means that you can link or imbed objects
  16.      (pictures, maps, documents, sound and video clips)
  17.      created in other programs in your PSA Cards entries.

  20. PSA Cards existing features:

  22.  *   Print Rolodex cards, envelopes, mailing labels,
  23.      shipping labels and address booklets.  Address books
  24.      can be customized.

  28.      and credit card calls.

  87.  *   Fixed a bug which caused printed output to always go to the default printer
  88.      regardless of the printer selected in the print setup dialog.

  90.      user about backups too often.
  91.  *   Fixed a bug that caused the phone page local/long distance flag to sometimes be

  106.    INSTALLING FROM A FLOPPY DISK
  107.  
  108.      Run the setup program, setup.exe, from the Program
  109.      Manager, Start menu, or Explorer.
  110.  
  111.    INSTALLING FROM A DOWNLOADED ZIP FILE
  112.  
  113.      1. Extract the program and help files by running
  114.      pkunzip from the command prompt.  The zip file should
  115.      contain these files:
  116.

  120.        _SETUP.LIB
  121.        DATA.Z
  122.        DISK1.ID

  130.      2. Run the setup program, setup.exe.  It is best not to
  131.      install the PSA Cards in the same directory that contains
  132.      the unzipped downloaded files.  You can delete this 
  133.      directory after the installation is finished.  If you 
  134.      do this, be sure to  backup your downloaded ZIP file 
  135.      before deleting it from your hard drive.
  136.  
  137.    LOCKED FILES
  138.  
  139.      If the setup program cannot replace an earlier version
  140.      of a file because it is already in use, restart (reboot)
  141.      you computer after the installation.  When a file can't 
  142.      be replaced because it is locked by another application, 
  143.      the setup program writes a file called wininit.ini in the 
  144.      Windows directory.  This file contains information on how to
  145.      replace files as the system is started.  Windows looks for
  146.      this file on system startup.
  147.  
  148.    IF SETUP.EXE WON'T LOAD
  149.  
  150.      Occasionally, setup.exe will not load.  This usually occurs
  151.      when a previous InstallSHIELD installation has failed and 
  152.      left junk in your C:\TEMP directory.
  153.  
  154.      If this happens to you, use the Explorer to clean out 
  155.      your C:\TEMP directory.  Then try the installation again.  This 
  156.      is a problem with the Stirling Technology InstallSHIELD system.  
  157.      Hopefully they will provide a fix for this soon.
  158.  
  159.      The install program can also be prevented from loading by
  160.      some virus protection programs.  Of course the solution to 
  161.      this problem to turn off your virus protection program while
  162.      you run the installation.
  163.  
  164.  
  165.    UNINSTALL PROGRAM 
  166.  
  167.      The install program implements an uninstall feature
  168.      that will remove PSA Cards from your system.  To access this 
  169.      program, click on Settings command in the Start Menu, then 
  170.      the Control Panel, and finally double click the Add/Remove 
  171.      Program icon.
  172.  
  173.      In Windows NT, double click the Uninstall icon in the
  174.      PSA Cards program group.  Be sure you want to uninstall
  175.      PSA Cards before doing this.  Once started in Windows NT, 
  176.      the program immediately proceeds to uninstall PSA Cards.
  177.  
  178.      If you have added files to the PSA Cards directory,
  179.      Uninstall will not delete the directory.  Nor will it
  180.      delete data files (other than sample.car) that you have
  181.      created in the PSA Cards directory.
  182.  
  183.    IF YOU ARE CONVERTING FROM PSA CARDS FOR WINDOWS 3.1, READ THIS:
  184.  
  185.      When you install PSA Cards for Windows 3.1 on a computer running
  186.      Windows 95, or when you install Windows 95 over Windows 3.1 with
  187.      PSA Cards already installed, there will be a "PSA Cards" program 
  188.      folder on the Windows 95 Start menu.  When you install PSA Cards
  189.      for Windows 95/NT 3.51 on a computer running Windows 95, a program
  190.      icon named "PSA Cards Win 32" will appear on the Start menu.
  191.      Since the InstallSHIELD Windows 95 installation routine does
  192.      not check for the presence of the old PSA Cards program folder
  193.      from the Windows 3.1 version, you will need to remove it from the
  194.      Start menu manually.  To do this, right click on the Start menu,
  195.      open the Programs folder, find the old PSA Cards program folder,
  196.      and drag it to the Recycle Bin.

  199. LOADING A DATA FILE ON STARTUP
  200.       
  201.      The installation program sets up PSA Cards to automatically 
  202.      open the file "sample.car" each time you select the PSA Cards 
  203.      icon.  If you want to open a different file on program startup 
  204.      in Wndows NT, use the Program manager "Properties" command to 
  205.      change the Command Line entry.  The new data file name replaces 
  206.      "sample.car" after the program name (cards.exe).  Be sure to 
  207.      leave a blank between the program name and the file name. 
  208.      
  209.      If you are running Windows 95:
  210.      1. Right click Start button
  211.      2. Click "Explore"
  212.      3. Click on the "Programs" folder and look for the PSA Cards 
  213.         shortcut in the Contents pane. (click the words "Programs" 
  214.         then look in the right hand window pane)
  215.      4. Right click on PSA Cards shortcut.
  216.      5. Click "Properties"
  217.      6. Click "Shortcut" tab
  218.      7. Change "Target" line sample.car to the desired file.
  219.  
  220.      You can also start PSA Cards from the File Manager or
  221.      Explorer by double clicking (or right click - Open) on
  222.      any PSA Cards data file that has a .car file type.
  223.  
  224.      Another Windows 95 way of starting PSA Cards with a specific 
  225.      data file is to use the right mouse button to drag file's
  226.      icon to the desktop.  Then select "Create Shortcut(s) here"
  227.      when the right mouse button menu is displayed.

  253.      registration form.  A registration form can also be
  254.      printed from within the program's Help topic for the
  255.      Register command.  If you choose not to use a 
  256.      registration form, be sure to indicate that you are
  257.      registering the Windows NT 3.51 / Windows 95 version 
  258.      so that I can mail the correct diskette.

  260.      COMPUSERVE USERS
  261.  
  262.      If you are a CompuServe user, you can also register
  263.      using CompuServe's Shareware Registration service.
  264.      The registration ID for this program is 4620.  The
  265.      fee is $25.00.  After CompuServe notifies me of your
  266.      registration, I will e-mail your registration code 
  267.      and send your diskette via US mail.

  269.      Whether you register by CompuServe or by US mail, if
  270.      I have your e-mail address, I will endeavor to send
  271.      your registration code as soon as I receive your 
  272.      registration.  Otherwise you will receive your 
  273.      registration by return mail along with your diskette.

  275.      Registered users enable me continue to improve PSA
  276.      Cards and implement your suggestions.  The income also
  277.      pays for the computer and software I use to do this.
  278.      If you use PSA Cards on a regular basis and find it
  279.      useful, please register.  This version of PSA Cards 
  280.      allows you to update your data file 20 times before
  281.      registering.  After the 20th update you will still be
  282.      able to access your data, but will not be able to save
  283.      changes to the file until you enter your registration
  284.      code using the Registration command in the Help menu.

  286.      PAYMENT FROM OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES
  287.  
  288.      If you live outside the United States, the easiest way to 
  289.      register is via CompuServe (see above).  If you don't have 
  290.      a CompuServe account, and you want to register using a 
  291.      credit card, see the next section.

  293.      You can also send payment in the form of an International 
  294.      Postal Money Order in US dollars, an American Express money 
  295.      order in US dollars, a check in US dollars drawn on a US 
  296.      bank, or cash. Your bank should be able to advise you on 
  297.      how to obtain a check drawn on a US bank.  We regret that 
  298.      we are unable to accept personal checks drawn or foreign 
  299.      banks or EuroChecks.

  301.      If you send cash, send US currency if at all possible.  
  302.      If you send payment in your local currency, use the 
  303.      exchange rate your bank is quoting and include an 
  304.      additional $3.00 (US) to cover our bank charges for 
  305.      currency conversion.  It is amazing that in 1995, US 
  306.      banks are still in the 19th century when it comes to 
  307.      dealing with small payments from outside the US.  I 
  308.      wouldn't be surprised to see the teller put on a 
  309.      green eye-shade and get out a quill pen before filling 
  310.      out the paper forms required to convert foreign currency 
  311.      to US dollars.  If you send cash in the mail, it is at 
  312.      your risk.  However, we have had a very high success 
  313.      rate with receiving cash sent via the postal service.  
  314.      If you want a higher degree of assurance when sending 
  315.      cash, use registered or certified mail.

  317. CREDIT CARD ORDERS ONLY

  319.      You can register with Master Card, Visa, American Express, or 
  320.      Discover from Public Software Library (PsL) by calling 800-242-4775 
  321.      (from within the US) or +1 713-524-6394 (from outside the US) or by 
  322.      FAX to 713-524-6398 or by CompuServe e-mail to 71355,470. You 
  323.      can also mail credit card orders to PsL at, PO Box 35705, Houston, 
  324.      TX 77235-5705.  If you want to print out a registration form that
  325.      you can mail to PsL, see the Registration topic in the on-line Help.
  326.      Public Software Library cannot accept credit card orders that are 
  327.      sent to PSA Software and then forwarded to them.  If you want use 
  328.      your credit card, you must contact PsL directly.

  330.      When you order from PsL, they will need the PSA Cards product 
  331.      number.  It is 14333.

  333.      When you register via PsL, there is a shipping and handling fee
  334.      of $3.00 for customers in the US.  For customers outside the US,
  335.      shipping and handling is $4.00.

  362. KNOWN PROBLEMS
  363.  
  364.      *    The Equation Editor for Microsoft Word does not always
  365.           work properly with OLE 2.0 container applications.  This 
  366.           version of PSA Cards will not recognize the Equation
  367.           Editor.  Word itself and its other associated OLE
  368.           servers work OK.
  369.      
  370.      *    The Help buttons in the OLE dialog boxes for Change
  371.           Icon and the OLE File Browser do not do anything.
  372.      
  373.      *    Context sensitive help for the Object command in the
  374.           OLE menu does not link to the correct help topic.
  375.      
  376.      These bugs are related to OLE 2.0 components supplied
  377.      by Microsoft.
